On a chilly Wednesday night sometime in October, I was kidnapped. Put into a car, given a set of instructions and dropped off at the back entrance of what seemed like a hotel or restaurant somewhere in London. It isn’t the usual start to a dinner, to say the least.
But then me and my fellow kidnappees (that’s a word, right?) were greeted with a cocktail and a warm welcome, escorted through the enormous kitchen area and led through to a private dining room in what turned out to be the legendary JW Steakhouse on Park Lane to experience #steaksecret, a new authentic American dining experience. A set menu of 7 courses (could be more, easy to lose track after that much food) designed by head chef Julian Ward takes you on a journey through classic American cuisine. From the fluffy homebaked bread rolls to a pumpkin tart starter to a selection of 3 beautiful USDA beef cuts to dessert – every single course added a new level to this amazing experience.
The stars of the show was of course the trio of beef: the generous cuts of JW Steakhouse’s signature “Tomahawk”, Wagyu beef and a short rib, accompanied by a variety of classic sides like onion rings, mac & cheese and fries. Try as I might, I couldn’t finish the whole thing – and that was with a couple more courses to follow.
A bourbon ice cleansed our palate to get us ready for dessert: fresh doughnuts with 3 surprising and delicious fillings, accompanied by a milkshake and Kentucky Coffee (not the kind you drink at work, I can guarantee you). And as if that wasn’t enough, a full size cheesecake to take home, which I still dream of to this date – arguably the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten.
Meatlovers, this is for you. For £75, you too can experience #steaksecret. All you have to do is to click here and use this topsecret password to book: Pennsylvania717. The price does not include the wine but I definitely recommend trying some of their American wines, which were a true revelation.
Oh, and if you do think you’re up to the #steaksecret task, make sure you go hungry. Very very hungry…
