Just days after returning from my trip to Marakkech, I was on my way back to Morocco on a work trip, as the Moroccan tourism board had invited me and 6 other bloggers to discover Casablanca and Rabat with them. Royal Air Maroc whisked us away to Casablanca on a Sunday eve (we even had our own welcome sign at the airport – a first!) and we arrived late at night at our first stop of our busy schedule.
Mazagan is a new beach and golf resort around 90km south of Casablanca, opened in 2009. It sits by itself on a spectacular 7km stretch of beach and overlooks the Atlantic. As we had arrived in darkness, waking up to the incredible view was just breathtaking. I woke up early and went for a little stroll along the hotel grounds and the beach (which had horses galloping across – magical!) before meeting the gang for breakfast and a tour around the hotel.
Spectacular doesn’t quite seem enough when describing Mazagan. Yes, it’s big – 500 rooms – but at no point do you feel like you’re in a crowded place. The hotel is built in traditional riad-style, with open corridors and spaces, all built around the pièce de résistance: the enormous swimming pool. There’s 6 bars and restaurants – one of which is even playing host to Nobu starting next week, a casino, a spectacular spa, its very own farm suited for bbq’s and events, a nightclub and an 18 hole golf course. There’s also the option of horseback riding, tennis, an incredible gym and several kids clubs for babies to teens, making this the perfect destination for just about anyone.
We only had a couple of blissful hours by the pool and the spa before having to head off to our next destination, but I am definitely planning on going back and discovering absolutely everything this resort has to offer – I’m on a quest to convince my family (including 4 young nephews) to come, as I’m sure everyone will love it. I may be a city girl, but when I’m on holiday I love nothing more than relaxing by the pool, the sound of the ocean, the sand of the beach under my feet, good food and a little entertainment, so Mazagan ticks all my boxes.
