COMME des GARÇONS and Dover Street Market have just launched COMME DES CARRÉS, a collaboration between the avant-garde Japanese label and classic French brand Hermès. CDG put their inimitable stamp on the square Hermès silk scarves. Amongst the collection are a couple of classic carrés, with a CDG twist, like added polkadots and squares across the print – which essentially ruins it, starting at £330. There’s also a very limited edition patchwork version (which will set you back £1500), combining 4 scarves.

I’m always impressed when big fashion houses like Hermès, Chanel or Louis Vuitton allow someone else to mess around with their trademark pieces. They are very guarded of their image – and I know this very well, as I worked at LV during the Stephen Sprouse collection launch – and like to be in control of it. Being doing collaborations like this, they’re essentially trying to reach a new public, but risk losing those they have. I do think that this collaboration shows quite a restrained Comme des Garçons and I almost wish they’d gone a step further. The Dover Street Market windows are perhaps my favourite part of the entire project.
