During Amsterdam Fashion Week (yes, it’s a real thing, look it up), Dutch label SuperTrash held a spectacular show to celebrate its new AW13 collection and I was invited to come along for the ride. SuperTrash may not be a familiar name to you (yet), but it’s a household name in the Netherlands and even Belgium. Now they have set their sights on conquering the UK, having opened their first boutique on South Molton Street just a couple of months ago. So that is how last week, I found myself on a plane to snowy Amsterdam with fellow blogger Ella, the UK PR’s and a journalist for The Daily Telegraph, for a whirlwind trip to go discover the brand for ourselves.
We stayed at the really lovely College Hotel (which was, yes you guessed it, a former school), and went for brief wander around town in the snow before getting ready for delicious dinner at Bo Cinq and the main event, held in a beautiful old horse stable… I don’t think any show here in London can quite compare in terms of spectacle, as this was a huge event with a reported 2000 guests.
The show featured models on bikes segways, quad bikes and even horses, which was a definite first for me! There were army girls, girls in gowns, girls on haystacks – there was a lot to see in a short time! During the finale, SuperTrash founder Olcay Gulsen appeared on a huge black steed, much to the delight of the crowd (she is a well known figure in Holland). To say it was a unique experience would be an understatement – don’t think Health & Safety would’ve let this happen here in the UK! After the show we were invited for a little meet and greet with the charming Olcay, followed by a drink and a boogie at the stables, before heading out in the snow and wandering through the city’s infamous red light district, as you do.
Another totally normal 24 hours in the life of a fashion blogger…
Thanks IPR and SuperTrash for inviting me!
