Disclaimer: I am complete and utter rubbish when it comes to my nails. Not only am I a nailbiter, but I struggle just to put a single layer on without accidentally painting my whole finger, let alone do anything more clever like nail art – that just ain’t happening. So, keeping that in mind, earlier today I reluctantly attempted Ciaté’s Velvet Manicure, knowing it would probably be a disaster.

There’s been a lot of talk about Ciaté’s velvet and caviar manicures lately (so much so that there’s a waiting list for some!), so I thought I’d give it a go. It’s pretty simple: put 2 layers of the nail polish (3am Girl for me) and then shake a generous sprinkling of the crushed velvet on the drying second layer, brush off excess velvet, et voilà! The result is lush, luxurious, matte velvet nails. I only did one nail on each hand as I didn’t have much time, but it’s pretty idiotproof. As you can see above mine are far from perfect, but bottom line: if I can do it, anyone can.

Ciaté’s Velvet Manicures are sold at Selfridges (where I got mine from), ASOS, Sephora and many more. At the moment most shops seem to have sold out for now, but keep an eye out for them.

Speaking of Ciaté, how about this Mini Mani Advent Calendar? Behind the doors hide 17 of Ciaté’s Mini Paint Pots, including 4 mini Caviar manis and 3 new shades. It makes a great early Christmas present – and it’s only £38! Exclusive to Selfridges!
