Suda Thai Mango Masterclass

Did you know June was Mango Month? Nope, me neither, but apparently now is when they’re at their best. In the UK (or anywhere else in Europe for that matter) mango is still quite an exotic fruit we don’t quite know how to cut/eat/use in recipes. Since I started dating an Aussie and traveling there, I’ve learned the difference between a ripe and unripe mango, the proper way to slice and eat them. He told me the Aussies even have a saying “a good mango is best eaten in the bath” – they’re meant to be sweet, juicy and incredibly messy. Mango is a new love of mine, but only if they’re good. So back to Mango Month. To celebrate the fruit being at its very best, Thai restaurant Suda in the heart of Covent Garden has launched a special mango menu and held a Mango Masterclass for a group of food bloggers (and me) to sample the dishes and learn how to make a couple of them. First thing I learned – there’s lots of different mangos and lots of different ways to use them. We were presented with about 10 dishes, ranging from startes to desserts all incorporating mango in some shape or form. We had mango cocktails, rolls, salad, curry and dessert. I could give you a step by step on how to make the most delicious sticky coconut rice with mango (seriously orgasmically good), but I’ll just let you drool over the pictures instead and encourage you to go. Suda Thai is on the quiet St. Martin’s Courtyard just off Long Acre and worth a visit anytime – Mango Month or not. Take it from me. I went twice in just a few days’ time.
