Last weekend I was invited by the lovely folks at One Aldwych to come stay in their gorgeous Central London hotel and experience their Moët Movies night in.
One Aldwych is a five-star hotel based in the heart of Covent Garden, a stone’s throw away from the theatres and hustle and bustle of the Piazza, but also, and more importantly, Somerset House – in my dreams, this is where I’d stay during London Fashion Week! It’s part of The Leading Hotels Of The World and it’s not hard to tell why. The location is perfect, the building is just impressive inside and out, the rooms are spacious and immaculate, the food was perfect, and the spa and pool is just the big fat cherry on top. And if I hadn’t quite been sold on all of that yet, the attention to detail made sure I was: from the homemade macaroons sent to my room as a little welcome to the mini TV in the bathroom to the “jogging map” with detailed running routes around the hotel. Complete and utter perfection.
We explored Covent Garden in the afternoon and in the evening we went to the screening room as part of the Moët Movies package: a movie, a (large!) glass of Moët and popcorn followed by a 3-course dinner in the hotel’s Axis restaurant. After a sublime meal (I had the black pudding scotch egg, soy glazed chicken and rhubarb crumble) I was feeling so full I was ready to call it a night, but on our way up to the room, the outside world had been transformed into a winter wonderland. As the hotel is just seconds away from the river, I ran out to Waterloo Bridge to admire my beloved London covered in a white blanket – Somerset House, the London Eye, Big Ben – it was magical. Then I fell flat on my face.
On Sunday morning, as the snow had started to melt and my shoes were still cold and wet from last night’s shenanigans, we spent a few glorious hours in the hotel’s spa, oblivious to the cold outside. The spa features one of the most beautiful indoor pools I’ve ever seen (and plays underwater music – doing laps whilst listening to the Star Wars theme was pretty epic), a gym, a steam room and a sauna. Sadly all good things must end and we had to drag ourselves out of the warmth into the sloppy snow outside…
The Moët Movies package is every weekend and costs £42.50 for a movie, champagne and 3-course dinner. For the full schedule, click here. I think it’s a great idea for a Valentine’s Day night out, with a great selection of romantic movies in the run-up to the day.
