My favourite restaurant in the world has to be Roka on Charlotte Street. I love sitting at the bar around the Robata grill, watching the sushi chefs create little masterpieces out of simple ingredients, wishing I could do that myself. Well, one day I decided to give it a go, and tried to recreate their amazing Yaki Asparagus I usually have as a side.

Since then, it’s been tried and tested and has become one of our favourite pre-dinner snacks or sides at home. It’s quick, it’s different, it’s healthy, it’s delicious, it’s simple and takes about… 5 minutes? Try it, you’ll understand.

I don’t have the luxury of having a Robata grill in my kitchen (not sure about an open flame inside), but here’s my version. You’ll need:
Asparagus Tips
Soy Sauce
2 Tablespoons Honey
A few spoonfuls of sesame seeds.
Salt & Pepper

How to make them:
Take a pack of asparagus tips, put them on the grill – I use the Cuisinart Grill & Griddle, which means they get nicely grilled on both sides, so it’s a bit quicker. Drizzle soy and honey over them, make sure they’re covered all over and close the griddle. Leave for about 5-10 mins, depending on how crunchy you like them. Plate them up, and generously sprinkle sesame seeds for some added texture and flavour.

Done! Also great on the BBQ. If sunshine ever returns…
