London Fashion Week SS12: Burberry Prorsum
The Burberry Prorsum shows are always a highlight during London Fashion Week; they’re as good for celebspotting and spectacle as they are for admiring the clothes. Set in a big glass tent in the middle of Hyde Park, over a thousand people in attendance and a front row with *real* A-list celebs, this is about as good as it gets.
The collection moved on from last season’s military vibe to a more tribal theme. I loved the use of prints and colours, something we’re not really used to seeing at Burberry. There was beading, crochet, weaves, raffia, and other handcrafted details. Whereas last season (and pretty much other season) it was all about the trench, this season Christopher Bailey completely reinvented the parka, definitely making it next summer’s must have. I thought this was a much more inspiring and daring collection than we’ve seen for a while at Burberry, as it’s been consistently good but not really taking risks. This time, I left as much excited about the actual clothes as well as the amazing celebspots.
Sienna Miller, Kanye West, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (current face of Burberry’s new fragrance Body, a bottle of which was on every seat!), Gemma Arterton, Paul Weller, Andy Murray, Mario Testino, Anna Wintour, Muse, The Feeling,… the list goes on and on.
Really good fun at the Burberry shows is also spotting the many trench coats the guests proudly wear. I spied everything from dozens of classics to some truly amazing showpieces. At the post-show drinks (oh how I wish every label had post-show drinks), I had a great time snapping some of the beautifully dressed guests…
