Introducing… Charlie May
Sometime right before fashion week, my friend and incredible blogger Charlie May aka Girl A La Mode launched her eponymous label in Soho, but sadly I couldn’t make it. Now I’ve finally got my hands on the lookbook, and I’m kicking myself for not going, as it is absolutely beautiful. Just 10 looks, each polished and sleek and representing Charlie’s personal style – monochrome, layering and attention to detail.
Being a massive fan of Belgian designers like Ann Demeulemeester and AF Vandevorst, Charlie May’s SS12 debut collection has a similar dark and almost androgynous feel to it, but with her own spin on things. She plays with contrasts of lengths and materials – crisp cottons are mixed with rough leather and pony skin, there’s maxi vs. mini, cropped tops vs. long flowy tunics.
Together with best friend and stylist Alexxsia Elizabeth (aka My Labyrinth) they also produced a beautiful video to go alongside the launch of the collection. It’s a must see!
I’m absolutely dying to get my hands on one of the ponyskin and nude leather motorcycle jackets… It is a small but perfect collection and I can’t wait to see where it all goes from here. All I know is I’ll definitely make it next time.
