Last night I fell truly deeply, madly in love. Again. This time, it’s with Sophie Hulme, a young London designer with lots of buzz around her, and at the Cube SS12 Press Day last night, I discovered why. Her simple pieces are defined by an emphasis on detail and quality. She takes inspiration from menswear tailoring to create some truly classic and timeless investment pieces to be worn for years to come, without ever being “last season”.

Hulme’s collections focus mostly on outerwear, dresses and accessories: the coats all start from a pretty basic shapes, but have beautiful detailing like leather or metal detailing. The daywear is also kept quite simple, but plays with different materials and shapes. Then there’s the bags… Sophie Hulme is fast getting a reputation for her gorgeous leather bags, which are quite simply to die for. The boxy tote bags come in different coloured leathers and feature gold armour detailing. I had to contain myself to not run away with one of them last night – any of these would be my dream daytime bag.

Every season, Sophie Hulme creates a different goldplated trinket which you receive when you buy a piece of the collecction. So, devoted fans can collect all trinkets and create their own individual Sophie Hulme charm necklaces… I think it’s about time I join this exclusive little club!

Bag 33 from the SS12 has my name written all over it and I’ll be first in line when it comes out next season. Not sure if I can wait that long, but I’ve already spotted a similar exclusive one from the AW11 collection at Selfridges. Now the only issue is, do I go for tan, black or nude? Hmmm… decisions decisions.
