London Fashion Week SS12: Michael Van Der Ham

London Fashion Week SS12: Michael Van Der Ham

If Michael Van Der Ham‘s individual, handmade collage-style invites gave a slight hint about what was in store for the young Dutchman’s SS12 collection. Straying slightly from his trademark patchwork style last season (opting for head-to-toe velvet instead), this would be a return to what he does best: mix the most eclectic prints, colours, materials and silhouettes together to create one of the most talked-about collections of London Fashion Week.

After a much-deserved drink and a bite at the sunny Old Eurostar terminal, courtesy of the New Gen sponsors, we were treated to a myriad of colour and prints, but incorporating collages rather than the usual patchwork (sounds the same but there is a big difference, promise!).

Whilst the clothes were as bright and eclectic as ever, Michael’s silhouettes have become more grown up, more elegant, more feminine, more wearable, more focused on his customer. Elegant trousers, gorgeous silk tops, printed Louboutin heels, simple shifts and plenty of daytime skirts.

After the show I was left craving two-tone coloured trousers, usually a big no-no, but somehow it worked perfectly. The simple cropped trousers were coloured on one side and white on the other, the perfect use of the block-colouring trend if ever I’ve seen one. Something tells me we’ll be seeing versions of these copied in some high street stores soon…

Perfection!
