London Fashion Week SS12: Corrie Nielsen

London Fashion Week SS12: Corrie Nielsen

After a bit of a nightmarish week post-London Fashion Week, where I suffered tons of technical difficulties with the blog (which is still not 100% to its former self, apologies), where my brain was too fuzzled with fashion to be thinking about it any more, and where I finalised my write ups for Elle Belgium, Shiny Style and Why Music Matters, I am finally back to blogging, and can begin to round up the ups and downs of London Fashion Week SS2012.

First up for me this season was the incredible Corrie Nielsen, who I visited in her studio a few weeks ago whilst she was in the midst of making this collection, named Arbiter Elegantarium, which loosely translates as “a judge in matters of taste”. A serious name for a serious collection, which takes its inspiration from the Far East, fused with Corrie’s trademark Marie-Antoinette-esque silhouettes.

On one hand there were the incredible showpieces we’ve come to expect from the Fashion Fringe winner, which aren’t exactly wearable but definitely have the wow-factor, then there was a large number of wearable daywear looks, which were the most to me. Having taken a few seasons to establish a dramatic signature style, this is the season she translated that style into a more commercial look. Highlights included an immaculate white-shirt-black-skirt combo, a kimono-style trenchcoat (genius!) and yellow dress with puff shoulders.

I ran into Corrie a day later at the Fashion Fringe finale, looking tired but happy with how it all went, and she told me how the choice of United Nude footwear used in the show – the architectural shapes perfectly contrasted the soft looks – was actually inspired by this very blog. After my piece on her, she discovered my post on the shoes further down the page and immediately contacted them to ask for them. Even though I didn’t actually do anything, I’m pretty happy to have been in a little way involved in this incredible show, which you can relive in the video below. Corrie Nielsen is fast becoming one of my firm favourites on the London Fashion Week schedule, so there was really no better way to kick the week off!

P.S. This was my first show with my new Canon EOS D600, so apologies for the many, many pics, I went a little overboard, but they’re so good, I just can’t help but share!
