LCF MA Footwear Students create shoes for New Look

I am back from Australia! I had a wonderful time, but we had a horrendous 57 hour journey coming back after Emirates canceled our flight and made a royal mess out of everything, so it took a lot longer than expected and the journey took a lot out of me. I hope you understand if I take a few more days to recover! I’ll do a big Ozzie post and will get back to business after the weekend!

Before I crawl back into bed I leave you with some images of the launch for the collaboration between New Look and London College of Fashion‘s MA Footwear students, who got to create a range of limited edition shoes for the high street chain to land in stores at some time this May.

Winner of the competition was Chang Seok Ko, whose distressed denim sandals and heels have a slight Eighties vibe to them. As the winner he gets 6 models in stores, which is obviously a great feat for any young designer.

The three runners up were Ruth Jones, whose gigantic scalloped platforms were a real eyecatcher. These will be a sell-out with the fashion-peeps, no doubt! Adriana Iurascu kept it more simple, with her pearl-adorned cut-out heels, perfect for weddings (both guests and the bride).

My favourites were Guang Jin’s strappy sandals. They look deceivingly simple, until you have a closer look and find the overlapping straps in leather and suede. Plus, nothing quite as elegant as a nude sandal for summer.

The project is really wonderful, giving young students the opportunity to create and be exposed to a large public, with the support and experience of a massive retailer. These projects are quite common for clothing designers, but there’s that much support out there for young footwear designers, so big kudos to New Look for supporting them!
