Diesel’s School of Island Life Workshop with Fred Butler and Katie Eary

Last night I attended a workshop with young designers Fred Butler and Katie Eary as part of Diesel’s School of Island Life (have a look here if you want to know what this is all about). Guests who have picked up their passport in a Diesel store can attend a number of similar complimentary, fun workshops all over the UK, get a stamp, and 3 stamps allows you entry into an VIP party later this summer, as well as a chance to win a trip to Ibiza to an exclusive Diesel event. Anyway, this was my first class at the Diesel School of Island Life, and let me tell you, if ‘real’ school was like this, I would have had a lot of fun.
Menswear designer (and sometimes womenswear – remember her collection with Catwalk Genius?)
Katie Eary was on hand for a customisation class, whilst accessory-designer-to-Her-Royal-Highness-Lady-Gaga Fred Butler would be teaching her group to make a gaga headdress.
I chose to go along with Fred Butler’s class, and we were taught in 3 hours step by step to recreate a hat she’d made in seemingly just minutes earlier. I am clumsy and impatient and probably should stay clear of glue guns but had a great time – my creation will probably not be chosen for Gaga’s next video though. Some girls showed a real knack for this stuff and created some wonderful pieces. All in all, we had a wonderful time with a creative mastermind – so whatever the result, I can’t complain.
To join in on the fun, just pick up a free passport at any Diesel store, go on Facebook to see the many upcoming events, from parties to photography field trips to appearing in Metronomy’s new video – it could all be part of your new classes at Diesel’s School of Island Life.
