Backstage at Jasper Garvida AW11

Well London Fashion Week has been over for 2 days now and what a week it was. Wet, cold and incredibly busy, but fun nonetheless! I’ve finally finished my pieces for ELLE Belgium and am ready to start my reviews on here… Better late than never! In no particular order, here’s the first of many!
On day 1 I popped backstage to see Jasper Garvida‘s AW11 collection before the show. I had been running all over town and was getting exhausted by then, so it was lovely to relax for a few minutes and see Jasper and his team.
It was suprisingly quiet backstage, the models were in hair and make up and Jasper seemed relaxed and happy to talk me through the collection. There were Fornasetti-style prints on dresses (and the team’s t-shirts), flashes of lace and eyecatching oversized sequinned pieces, which Jasper told me were made from window blinds, of all things! It was a more grown up, evolved offering from the designer’s last collection.
Also, for the first time we saw Jasper Garvida bags, which were also made from of the window blind materials, and the shoes were made in collaboration with Upper Street once again.
Sadly I couldn’t stay for the show, so I didn’t see the clothes in action, but I can tell you this much: I weighed the white “wedding dress”, which was half made out of the window blind embellishments, half out of thick lace – I couldn’t even lift the thing. The model wearing it on the catwalk must have been a true hero.
Oh and rather than stressing out or adding finishing touches before the show, Jasper Garvida wanted to know all about my Chanel adventure instead! That’s just how confident he was in his collection… and in my opinion, quite rightly so!
