Carine Roitfeld leaves French Vogue… now what?
I don’t usually blog about news items, but I do think this is an interesting new development in the fashion world, so here goes! This morning, Carine Roitfeld (56) officially announced her resignation from French Vogue after 10 years in charge of one of the world’s most powerful and influential magazines. Rumours about her departure had been swirling for a while, so it’s not a total shock, but still surprising nonetheless.
Her departure leaves 2 burning questions unanswered at the moment:
1) Where is Carine off to? Rumours of her joining good friend Tom Ford’s new womenswear label are pretty persistent, but somehow I’m not sure. For years there’s been talk of Carine replacing Anna Wintour at American Vogue when she retires, something Roitfeld has implied herself in previous interviews. I don’t think this will be the case either, not now at least. Perhaps she’s joining her husband on his growing fashion venture Equipment – a range of shirts she regularly wears herself. Perhaps she just wants a break. Who knows… I’m pretty sure everyone will be as intrigued to see what her next step is either way.
2) Who will replace her? Who wants to replace her? I honestly have no idea. These are big shoes to fill, so I’m curious to see who Condé Nast will pick.
Either way I think this is an exciting development. Some fresh blood at Vogue is not a bad thing, and whatever Carine Roitfeld will do, I’m sure she’ll do it in her own, typically French way.
What do you guys think? Any ideas on replacements?

Both pictures my own.
