Afternoon tea at Bake-a-boo

Last week, in between the two ankle-twisting-incidents, I briefly got to venture outside and joined my dear friends and fellow bloggers Sarah (Sarah’s Scribbles), Kate (Fabric Of My Life) and Katie Antoniou (London Plinth) for afternoon tea at Bake-A-Boo near West Hampstead. Those of you who know me know it takes quite a bit to get me to venture out of Zone 1, but this was worth the “trek”. (I’m lazy.)

As soon as you open the bright pink front door, Bake-a-boo becomes a feast for all your senses. The tiny little tearoom is a vintage-slash-kitsch wonderland with something new to discover every time you look, from knitted cupcakes hanging from the chandeliers to bunting to mouthwatering pictures of their creations. This is definitely not the place for lovers of minimalism!

The place smells of freshly made cakes and teas (there is a tea-menu longer than I’ve ever seen before). As we had booked our Afternoon Tea in advance, our 3-tiered wired cake stand was ready and waiting and had personalised cupcakes on top. There were out-of-this-world yummy cucumber and egg mayo sandwiches (seriously, how is that even possible?), to homemade scones, mince pies, cookies, fudge, cupcakes and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Not the ideal dish for anyone on a diet, but I dare you to eat 1 bite of the scone with clotted cream and jam and remember that you were on one to begin with.

Fuelled by unlimited amounts of tea, we spent the afternoon gossiping, eating, gossiping and more eating until we literally could no more (and the shop was closing). For £15 per person, it’s some of the best fun I’ve had in a while.

Highly HIGHLY recommended, but do book in advance because it’s small and gets busy! It’s also a popular place for Hen parties, so if you’re looking for an original idea, do have a look here to see what they offer.
