Today sees the launch of H&M x Lanvin. At the time of writing (8.30am), it’s already sold out online, the queues on Regent Street are around the corner and if you’re not in it, you can probably forget about it by now.
Almost forgotten in the H&M mania is a far more interesting high street collaboration (in my opinion): the Valentino x GAP collection, dropping in very select stores this weekend.
In order to celebrate the arrival of GAP in Italy, Valentino’s creative directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli were asked to design a capsule collection for the high street chain. Rather than designing a full range, this collaboration consists of just 7 pieces – but they are 7 absolute must-have pieces.
As a real collaboration should be, the collection is the perfect combination of Valentino’s quintessential look, full of ruffles and bows, and GAP’s wearability. There’s 3 ruffled khaki parkas – a short, cropped and longer version, there’s the khaki cargo pants and ruffled skirt. Then there are 2 grey marl tops: a t-shirt with bow and a ruffled hoodie. Not much, but it brings the message across.
Rather than a lower quality version of a fashion label, as most of these collaborations are, the Valentino x GAP collection is more like a showcase of how Valentino would look if they did casualwear too. None of the style or quality is lost, but with prices between £89.99 and £149.99 it is possible to own a bit of true Valentino at affordable prices.
Available this Saturday, November 27 at the new GAP Milan flagship store, Colette in Paris, the GAP flagship store on Oxford Street from 9.30am and interestingly, at Dover Street Market from 11am.
If there’s one thing to queue for this season, it’ll be this one for me.
