Urban Outfitters SS11 Press Day

The Urban Outfitters press days unlike most other ones in several ways. For one, rather than being in a sleek showroom, it is held in their Oxford Street store, during shopping hours, much to the confusion of unaware shoppers who accidentally wandered into the Press Day section.

Also making it different is that the clothes aren’t displayed in your average press day manner. It was almost like walking into a little thriftstore, chock-full with clothes, shoes, jewellery, home wares and accessories. Discovering every bit is heaps of fun and it makes it so easy to imagine these collections in store in a few months. The quirky styling and mix of designer with high street is what I love the most about Urban Outfitters after all.

Highlights included the Kat Maconie shoes I first spotted at Felder Felder during London Fashion Week. It’s amazing to see them in production and available to us all – I’m 100% obsessed with the cut out ring-booties. Real wishlist material!

Further favourites were the TBA and Peter Jensen collections and the swimwear, something I’d never really seen (or looked for) at Urban Outfitters before. As I’ve already noticed a few times at the press days recently, swimwear is fast becoming an almost couture item. Perhaps not overly functional, but superpretty, like the lace-panelled bustier swimsuit by Tavik or the cool black & white model by Cheap Monday.

The Urban Outfitters own label is also out in full force, full of quirky little items like shoes, rucksacks, scarves and watches. There were also a few exclusives on display, like a Richard Nicoll cape dress and feathered headdresses by Bitching and Junkfood.

For the boys I mostly drooled over the tons of amazing shoes and gorgeous manbags I may just snap up myself. For the full menswear scoop, have a look at my darling Brad Palmer’s post on the day here.

I’ll leave you with lots and lots of pics, so you can judge for yourself. Summer now, please?
