If you haven’t heard of glamping yet then you’ve obviously been living under a rock. If you happen to be one of those, then here it is: Glamping= glam + camping.
With upscale festivals like Vintage at Goodwood, camping has become a glamorous thing to do once again, so many brands are now jumping on the glamping bandwagon – including Stella McCartney for Adidas. I’ve been a longtime fan of Stella’s collaboration with Adidas, which manages to make sports clothing a lot more fun and stylish whilst still maintaining all the technical qualities that Adidas usually provides.
At the Adidas Press Days, I discovered the new SS11 Stella McCartney for Adidas collection, which boasts some gorgeous tennis, running, yoga, golf, swimming and cycling gear, but this year there’s the added new Weekender line. The Weekender (aka glamping) collection features practical outerwear, weatherproof but still stylish. There’s the short wellies, with leopardprint inside, the thermos, also with leopardprint, thick wool legwarmers and even a sleeping bag.
Possibly the best item of the collection is an amazing cape Miss Ugly Betty wouldn’t have said no to, which transforms into a blanket for you to sit on, ideal for those rainy-sunny-Glastonbury days.
Also, with my marathon quest still ringing in my brain, Stella’s running collection grabbed my attention. When I finally get to the stage of running hours a day, I may invest in the leopard running shorts or some more fashionable running gear. Until then I’m sticking to fulfilling my basic needs, which right now is mostly focusing on finding the right shoe, which I learned plenty about in the Adidas Performance section. The PR who talked me through the collection was also running her first marathon, so she talked me through a few things. All I know is, I’ve got a looooong way to go…
Other highlights from the Adidas press days:
Adidas Performance, featuring Adizero, the lightest shoes I’ve ever seen/weighed! Crazy technology going on here!
Adidas Style and Originals, featuring some Jeremy Scott craziness!
