Antoine Peters for Quinze & Milan x Eastpak

As the first birthday of my blog is looming (only 2 WEEKS AWAY), I’ve been going through all my posts of the past year, reminding myself of the journey I’ve been on. When I started this, I had no idea what I was planning on doing. I had every intention of making this a fashion, design and art blog, my true passions, but then things sort of developed and turned this into a complete fashion blog. That doesn’t mean I’m no longer interested, but then maybe it’s best to focus on just one thing and not… toasters, for example.

So, when occasionally something slips into my inbox that combines both fashion and design or art, I jump on it. Last March, I wrote about Belgian design company Quinze & Milan’s collaboration with EASTPAK on a small range of furniture called BUILT TO RESI(S)T. Well now they’ve expanded the collaboration by adding a young edgy designer to the mix for a one-off project.

Antoine Peters is a young Dutch designer previously named as one of “100 new fashion designers” in a book by Hywel Davies. Previously working at Viktor & Rolf, he’s now been gaining acclaim with his own label and conceptual projects like A SWEATER FOR THE WORLD, in which he photographs people of all walks from all over the world in a 2-person sweater.

Antoine Peters provided his black & white prints from his “The World Is Flat” collection for the Quinze & Milan seating range, which was then presented at the Interieur Design Biennale in Belgium, where attendees were invited to colour in the prints with crayons. The result: a bright, happy, colourful, eclectic… something. It put a smile on my face.

P.S. As I was researching Antoine Peters for this piece, I came across this video for his SS11 collection, The World Is Flat. This may not seem odd at first sight, until I read the caption that went with it: Antoine Peters is the world’s first fashion designer who … presents his designer clothing by means of a ‘pop-video’ and ‘pop-song’ for which he even signed a real record deal. Yep, you can even buy the song on iTunes. Singers wearing designers in videos. Singers-turning-fashion-designers. But here you have the world’s first fashion-designer-turned-singer-to-sell-his-designs. The world truly upside down.
