Collar Love

I’ve always had a slight obsession for collars. Those of you who know me know I often wear shirts under dresses and tops just to create that preppy look by adding a collar. I like them ruffled, crisp white, checked, Peter Pan style – any way you can imagine really. For me, it’s not really about actual shirt, but just the visible bits. When Miu Miu came with a SS10 collection full of funky printed loose collars, it finally allowed the collar to take centre stage as an accessory, no longer just a part of a shirt. I was in love.

I never invested in the Miu Miu collars – too many fake copies, too expensive, too recognisable – but the idea has been lingering in the back of my head since. Then today, whilst browsing Kabiri’s online shop, I found THE one: the beautiful embellished collars by young British label Cabinet.

Founded by Gemma Critchley & Zara Braganca in 2008, the label boasts a number of jewellery pieces I’d love to share with you as well, but I want to focus on the collars for this post. Handmade, on crisp white antique collars in different shapes and sizes, with a variety of different embellishments, Cabinet manages to create beautiful necklace-type pieces out of a very simple item of clothing. There’s also a bespoke service for all your specific collar needs! I think these little works of art are the way forward to spice up my millions of Little Black Dresses a bit and create a sophisticated, preppy look. The only problem is… which one?

The Allure collar has to be one of my favourites, which is still for sale at Kabiri. Shall I…?

And some other amazing ones I took from the Cabinet website
