So in the final of my posts on my crazy Chanel adventure , I’m focusing on the actual show. I truly loved every minute of it, from the choreography, to the 80 strong orchestra playing Björk and The Verve to the few casting surprises, like Brad Koenig & his adorable son and a glowing Inès de la Fressange.
Inspiration for the collection (and the décor) for this season came from the 60’s cult film Last Year In Marienbad, for which Coco Chanel had actually designed the costumes. The show started off with a series of reworked Chanel tweed suits, first in classic black & grey, later in cheerful pastel colours, perfect for summer,. Many of them were lined with feathery fringes giving it a more modern look, but still true to the Chanel style. Then came the section many dubbed the Chanel Moth-holes. This had more of a rock ‘n roll vibe, with plenty of bikerboots and skinny jeans which appeared to be eaten by moths. This then flowed into a couple of light, floaty floral dresses, accessorised by dramatic parasols to add extra drama.
Then came the eveningwear, suddenly leaving the entire catwalk with just black looks, save for one amazing feathery apricot creation Carmen Kass was wearing. When original Chanel-muse Inès de la Fressange appeared, the crowd applauded, and she took her walk with pride and a gigantic grin on her face, quite endearing. In the end, Karl came to take his bow, and when he did he took his victory lap with his court of ‘special ones’ (Inès, Baptiste, …) followed by the huge sea of models behind them… 86 in total! Spectacular doesn’t quite cover it!
I absolutely loved the seemingly comfortable platform sandals and oversized jewellery; the stacked bangles, dangly earrings, chunky necklaces, little embellished fingerless gloves. When it comes to accessorising at Chanel, it seems more is more!
I could go on for quite some time, but rather than doing that, you can see for yourself. And if a picture says a thousand words, then here’s many, many words.
P.S. If you haven’t already, make sure you go read my post on Chanel News!
And finally… me spotted on Style.com snapping Mr. Lagerfeld. Funny or what?
