Young British Designers

Young British Designers is a project after my own heart. Supporting young designers is one of the things I feel most passionate about in my role as a blogger/journalist/fashion lover, so when I first heard about YBD a few months ago, I jumped up and down on my desk chair, Tom-Cruise-on-Oprah-style.
How many times have I sat at London Fashion Week watching a young designer’s show, thinking “very nice, but where do I get my hands on this stuff?”. Because more often than not, these clothes don’t make it to stores, or if they do, I wouldn’t know where. This is why I was so excited when the British Fashion Council started the British Designers Collective at Bicester Village.
That was just a pop up shop, but www.YoungBritishDesigners.com is now a permanent home which gathers the finest young talent online, so it becomes accessible to everyone, worldwide. Most exciting of all… it launched TODAY. I’ve just spent the past half hour drooling over pieces by my new favourites Julian J Smith, Jasper Garvida, Alice Palmer, Olivia Rubin and Sykes. You can browse by Designer, by garment, but most originally, also by event, i.e. LFW, NEW GEN, Vauxhall Fashion Scout, etc.
At just a few hours old, I’m already truly impressed. I’m so happy there’s finally a place where young British talent is gathered together on the interweb, and gets sold at a fair price. The site is also full of little interviews, info and pictures – a perfect way to get to know the designers! Unfortunately, this means I now have to go hide my bankcard somewhere far, far away…
So with London Fashion Week coming up next week, I say let’s all get together and help support the talent that needs it the most by having a look on YBD and invest now in the designers who may well end up becoming some of the biggest names in fashion of tomorrow!
