5 Must Haves For The Wedding Season

Wedding season is upon us (well, has been for a while) so this time I’m tackling a party outfit with the help of Jamie Ball of Little Kingdoms once again. This is the third set of illustrations we’ve worked on together and I think we’re really starting to hit our stride. The fun part of doing this is that I basically get to assemble my dream outfits without it costing a penny!
1. Erdem AW10 Dress
My love for Erdem is no secret on this blog, I probably mention it every other post. I saw his AW10 show at Senate House and even shed a tear. I wasn’t alone in this either. It was so hauntingly beautiful, the setting was amazing, the music gave me chills and the clothes… well he surpassed himself once again. So of course I’m choosing Erdem for my perfect party dress! I had so many to choose from, but I think this one works best for a Summer Wedding. The yellow is light, the burgundy leaves make it a perfect cross-over for fall. The shape is elegant, but the exaggerated shoulders make it a little young and edgy again. I could go on… Whether the dress is actually been made in production I don’t know as I haven’t seen it anywhere, but that’s the fun part of this collaboration… I can just dream it up!
See the original here and the full, glorious 11 minute long video of the show here. You can see the dress in action around the 3 minute mark.

2. YSL Hortense Peep-Toe Wedges
To make the dress a little edgier I looked for a little rock ‘n roll vibe when it came to accessorising. These shoes are at the top of my Must-Have list. I go on Matches’ website every day to see if they’re still in stock in my size (today, they still are). Other than the price, they’re perfect. They’re suede and sandals, which means they can be worn right now and in winter with opaques. The semi-wedge makes it look like they’re heels but with the comfort of a wedge – which at 13.5cms high, you really want.

3. Alexander Wang Clutch
In keeping with the slight rock chick vibe, I’ve added a clutch by Alexander Wang. The zippers give it that little edge, and it’s leather but looks like suede, to match the shoes. It’s envelope shaped and looks big enough to hold a camera, phone, make up and Compeeds for when those shoes start to inevitably kill you. On any other day, you can just make this the most fashionable iPad holder in the universe. The gold metalware is great as it allows you to play around with gold jewellery… which comes next!

4. Alexis Bittar Gold Hydroqz Ring
The dress is already quite a statement, so I’d keep the jewellery to a minimum. The gold from the clutch can be repeated in the jewellery, plus gold works perfectly with the yellow of the dress. I chose this ring as I love the chunkiness of it, the stone and the setting. In the full look you’ll also see a chunky gold cuff, which you can find here.

5. ASOS Bunny Ears Fascinator
A wedding is possibly the only time one can (and should) get away with wearing something silly on your head. As the dress is really the stand out piece of the outfit, it’s always to keep it simple with the headwear – you don’t want to look like a fancy dress victim. I chose this ASOS Bunny Ears fascinator for 2 reasons: first of all it’s cute and will lighten up the seriousness of the outfit. Secondly, it’s cheap. As this outfit is at the risk of costing over a few grand (one can dream), a hat you’ll probably never wear again is not worth the expense. Oh, and it’s funny.

As ever, a big thank you to Jamie for making a dream outfit become reality. Ish. The Erdem dress was a huge challenge but it looks awesome. Make sure you check out his website, his blog or find him on Twitter.
