I’ve taken a little blogiday (yup, it’s a word), but I’m back this week with a vengeance! This weekend I was invited to go along to the Skinny Cow Swap Shop in London’s Soho Hotel, a charity event raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

These kinds of events aren’t usually my cup of tea, but as I’m currently in the middle of an epic wardrobe spring clean, I figured I may as well drop some of my unwanted items off and get some new goodies in return. Along with some other fabulous bloggers, I got a preview of the room which was stacked full of fashionable donations by celebs, from designer dresses, belts, handbags, shoes – even a pair of black patent Louboutins! The rules were pretty simple: bring up to 3 unwanted items, get a token for each item, and spend them on something new. Not a penny spent. And we were doing this for charity, of course! For every item swapped, Nestlé UK will donate a sum of money to Marie Curie Cancer Care. If that’s not guilt-free shopping, then I don’t know what is.

The event was organised by Skinny Cow, of low-calorie ice cream and hot chocolate fame, and hosted by Kelly Brook. The women attending had all won a competition through the Skinny Cow Facebook Fan Page. Within minutes of the doors opening, the racks of clothes had been emptied by the swappers. A girl was left shaking when she found the Louboutins, in her size too! My swag was a blue Asos print dress I actually had my eye on last season and some purple House of Holland tights. I gave my third token to my friend who scored a fabulous black Jaeger sweater dress. A dutiful Kelly Brook wrapped them up for us, much to her own delight.

Although the Swap Shops were just one-off events in London and Manchester, you can still join the special Skinny Dip Auction through the Facebook Fan Page. It is a live online event due to start on the 26th March so you too can join in on the swap fun.

I must admit swapping is great fun and such a satisfying thing to do: all the fun of shopping without spending a penny and a clearout in your wardrobe as an added bonus! Yep, I’m a convert. Swishing have a whole series of events coming up, so I may start checking them out. If anyone else has any good tips please let me know, I’ve got a bulging bag full of goodies to get rid of.
