Quinze & Milan vs EASTPAK

They’ve gained their fashion kudos with high profile collaborations with Raf Simons, Eley Kishimoto, Rick Owens, Christopher Shannon en Gaspard Yurkievich, now it looks like EASTPAK is headed in the furniture direction with its latest project. They’ve joined forces with edgy Belgian design company Quinze & Milan to create a range of youthful lounge seats.
This is a collaboration like it should be done: take the best of both sides and combine. They’ve taken two classic designs by Quinze & Milan (the Club Sofa 01 and Primary Pouf 02) and added the typical EASTPAK element to it. Lots of little zipper pockets have been added onto the seats and provide storage for your books, Vogue magazines, reading glasses, laptop, iPods, headset, remote control… It’s design with plenty of functionality, and although a little too studenty for my own taste, it’s nice to see EASTPAK trying something new. The project is called BUILT TO RESI(S)T. Think about that one for a minute.
Both pieces will be produced in exclusively numbered limited series, and prices will start at €500. The project will be presented to the international public at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile during Milan Design Week from 13-18 April 2010 in Milan, Italy – these images are an exclusive first look at what’s coming up!
