Tweeting behind the scenes at Marc Jacobs

Last week, Twitter gained another great fashion insider when Robert Duffy joined its ranks.
If you don’t know who Mr. Duffy is, he is Marc Jacobs‘ business partner, as well as his partner in crime. Over the past week he’s been tweeting behind the scenes from Marc Jacobs World, awkwardly and hilariously learning (and sometimes failing) to deal with this new medium. Some of his initial tweets had to be deleted after the Marc Jacobs legal department slapped him on the fingers for revealing a little too much. For example, he asked his followers for ideas for the set design for the upcoming show, just a week away, as he had no idea. These tweets were quickly deleted as their legal and PR department stepped in. Some of the pictures Mr. Duffy posts showed Marc in front of drawings of designs yet to be shown on the runway, which obviously caused concerns to the big chiefs.
But, he’s apologised for his rookie mistakes and continues to tweet away, replies to just about anyone who addresses him and gives a pretty open view about anything Marc Jacobs.
So far he’s revealed they are working on a book on all the “kids” working for MJ, that he’s checking out a new store location in NY, that they’re opening a new store in Milan with a cafe and bar (a first), MJ has a cold and that he’ll continue to speak the truth until they shut him down.
I think it’s so refreshing to get some personal insight a global fashion brand like this, which is interesting to both fashion insiders as well as just fans of the brand. This is about as truly unscripted, non-PR approved contact with someone at the top of a global fashion brand as you’ll ever get. Up until now, that’s been completely unprecedented. So here’s to @Robertcduffy being allowed to do his thing for a long, long time, and others following suit! If you’re a tweeter, be a follower.
FYI, WATCH THE MARC JACOBS SHOW LIVE ON FEB 15 AT 8PM EST (1AM LONDON TIME)
