As if broadcasting their catwalk shows live to the world wasn’t enough, Burberry has now decided to take it a step further and do it in 3D.
Despite being a heritage brand, they’ve really been pioneers when it comes to fashion and new media; last season they showed people’s live tweets during the afterparty on huge screens. There was also a room with computers for bloggers – amazing, right? Well… in Alexland, it is.
Anyway, now that everyone has well and truly jumped on the live streaming bandwagon (earlier this week, London Fashion Week announced a dedicated digital schedule, see here), Burberry has upped the ante once again.
In a statement released this morning, Christopher Bailey explains this next move: ”We are very excited to announce that we are hosting the first ever truly global fashion show. We will be simultaneously live streaming our show using 3D technology directly to New York, Paris, Dubai, Tokyo and LA. This unprecedented event will enable people to experience the energy and atmosphere of this event from around the world. 3D technology will bring our global audience into the London show space allowing them to see the colours and fabrics, to hear the music and to be a part of that moment when it all finally comes together.”
The Autumn Winter 2010/11 womenswear show will take place at The Chelsea College of Art in London at 4PM on 23 February 2010, but you can catch it live online at http://live.burberry.com , where you can leave your comments and tweets and whatnots. Unfortunately, you won’t be watching this with 3D glasses on your little laptop just yet, but streaming events will be held at following locations:
NEW YORK 3D live streaming event at Skylight studios
PARIS 3D live streaming event hosted with concept store Colette
DUBAI 3D live streaming event at The Address
TOKYO 3D live streaming to La Fabrique for ”Burberry Night”
LOS ANGELES* 3D streaming event hosted by Tina Brown, editor of The Daily Beast
Me? If I’m as lucky as last season, I’ll be in the tent again watching the action live, swooning away…
