Alexander McQueen SS10 Ad Campaign

Most of the SS10 ad campaigns have gradually been coming in over the past few weeks, but up until now none of them have really been very exciting. The highly anticipated Lara Stone/Louis Vuitton campaign fell a bit flat in my opionion (although it’s a big improvement over Madonna, who’s now jumped ship to D&G). Burberry stuck to their guns and chose Emma Watson once again, this time posing with her handsome little brother Alex. Cute, but same old, same old. Alberta Ferretti chose Stephen Meisel and 4 topmodels, the old school way, which is just really nice.
Alexander McQueen, however, is really having his moment. Or perhaps it’s me having a McQueen moment. But either way, the new ad campaign with Raquel Zimmermann shot by Nick Knight has been the first to really make me pay attention. The entire SS10 collection consisted of reptile like prints, so it’s only appropriate that Ms Zimmermann is covered with colourful snakes, making it almost impossible to find a start and end between the reptiles and the model in her snakeskin catsuit.
And then there’s the shoes… There’s very little that hasn’t already been said about these shoes in the past six months, ranging from the ridiculing to the adoring (but mostly ridiculing). I don’t get the fuss myself – these shoes will not be made commercially and are truly works of art. I was lucky enough to have a little testdrive in them a few months back and shockingly they weren’t as uncomfortable as I’d expected. For a short girl like myself, it was pretty nice to join the ranks of the normal-heighted for just a few minutes. These boots may not be made for walking, but they sure are special. And let’s face it, they’re not the most ridiculous shoes out there right now (yes, Lara Stone/LV – I’m looking at you and your kitten-heeled, pony-tailed, green Ugg boots)
